Can do it without an elite :-)
As far as drops go, I have had good luck with this farm, in charcoal alone :-O
ArchPong, do you use Sandstorm -> Earthquake -> Aftershock? Wonder if that would be enough to kill them . . .

I think he meant Sandstorm instead of Savannah Heat and the same build as in the the first post.

baz77,
If you repetitively enter this area to farm do you notice the drops getting worse? Should I do something in between runs? I've noticed the number of gold items I get is decreasing.

I haven't noticed a drop in the items. It still appears random to me, and trust me I farm the crap out of this area.
I would also like to point out that the Terra Tank build works very well here. Also you can make a much bigger path than posted in the map. I will see if I can snap a screen of my route tonight.

Only every now and then. When the grawl do spawn just map in and out, sometimes they spawn there in excess of 4 maps. I just map to a different city then back when that happens.

This area is silly easy with wammo. Dolyak Signet is NOT needed unless you intend to farm Grawl. You can kill the pop-up seeds, at least 3 bosses (I killed the warrior, ele, and necro boss), the devourers... all with relative ease. Not too good with Grawl though, unless you get one at a time. There are 2 builds that will work fine, which you choose from depending on if you want to farm gargoyles too.
1st: Healing
9 Healing (will explain)
15 Sword (or axe if you choose)
at least 9 strength or tactics, depending on your shield (strength is preferred for longer Flail)-- assuming this is the req of your shield
Live Vicariously
Mending
Flail
3 or 4 attack skills of your choice (can't go wrong with Whirlwind Attack if you have it though)- must be adrenaline based
Last slot or 2- Healing Signet, Purge Signet, Rush, whatever
This will farm Devourers, bosses, seeds, and Elementals. Strongly recommended is 3 weapons- a physical damage (vamp or furious or sundering), an elemental damage (for warrior types- I've tried it and it DOES make a difference on Elementals and Carrion Devourers), and a wand (with Nightfall you can get a req 9 healing or protection rod that does holy damage). You will need to wand for the ele boss. An extreme pain in the ass to kill with melee. You should have a longbow for pulling, but I shouldn't have to tell you that...
Special strategies:
Ele Boss- wandspike! His only damage in Whirlwind every 4 seconds, and Mending +LV outheals that. Takes a few minutes to bring him down, but there's no threat of dying if it's 1 on 1. Shake aggro if other elementals come around.
Seeds: If they pop up in pairs, run away till you lose aggro, then come back and pull 1 at a time with your bow. Keep using your bow until all your adrenaline skills are charged. By then the seed will be out of energy thanks to Holy Wrath, and unable to heal, and can only hurt you with Sig of Judgement every 10 seconds. Proceed to unleash your adrenaline spike on its ugly ass, and use Heal Sig if you need to. They die very very fast.
Devourers: Kill the Plague Devourer 1st! Normally you can survive any size aggro, but Weaken Armor really messes you up. If you have Purge Signet, use it to buy a little time, but remember his spell will recharge in 10 seconds instead of the usual 20 so it won't buy you a lot of time. Even if you die immediately afterwards, KILL HIM. Without the armor hex the melee and rangers are easy to kill. You can come back and finish the rest of the group off to erase DP.
2nd: Protection
Balthazar's Spirit
Shield of Regeneration
Flail
Sprint
Whatever attack skills / utility you want
10 or 11 in Prot is all you really need. I think 11 and 12 both give 11 seconds of SoR, the difference is 1 pip of regen. I don't run 12 and I don't recommend it... the points are better spread elsewhere. Again, make sure you have a Prot req wand for the ele boss.
Strategy is mostly the same, but you can farm gargoyles with ease using this build. The regen is enough to counter Phantasm and Crippling Anguish, and the armor greatly reduces the damage from lightning spells. Requires paying very close attention to energy reserves, though. It's often necessary to draw extra aggro just to keep your energy up for SoR. Superbly offsets Weaken Armor, BUT watch out for Skull Crack, because it CAN hit a 1/4 second cast in hard mode!
This is a very easy run and the money and drops are good. Dust off yer wammos and rake it in before the inevitable nerfs!

i farm the same area in 5-6mins in hm, 30+ enemies, with my E/Me. Energy doesn't go down, don't take any damage and drops are good... on a good run about 15k in an hour. Kill all enemies in one onslaught. Found the extra bit of damage i needed using the Sunspear skill intensity, bumps all my attack by about 15-20 damage and with the AoE damage that pans out to be enough to pretty much finish them all in one go

Just lazy and like to sit back and not cast anything. I've tried so many W/Mo combinations in this zone and they all work. I can get 200+ kills consistently, kill everything in the entire zone except for a few Grawl (either 2 monk, 3 monk, or monk + Necro boss that randomly spawn). I still bring back a full sack of golds (2-6 per zone wipe), purples, tomes, etc. Lockpick drops suck though. I think their drop rate must be about 1 per 200-250 kills. If drops are worse, anet may have only nerfed the Elementals, because I still get decent stuff from the other wildlife. No Elite tomes, though, and I usually kill 4 or 5 bosses per run.

Now it's a waste of time imo, no golds, no lockpick, no tomes juste some whites and gp. About 200-300 per run, so I think it's not a good place.

The drops are fine, I get about 5-6 golds per run. The trick is only damaging one opponent at a time. I use a SV/55 necro to do this.

I get about 3-4 golds per run, and about 1k in gold. More golds if there are chests, though. It's an okay place, not really the best, but you could do worse. And there is the possibility of 3 elite tomes in the same area, so that's pretty good.
